June 19th marks the second annual Fluid Power Professionals’ Day, created in 2014 by the International Fluid Power Society (IFPS). The IFPS set aside this day to recognize all those who work in the fluid power industry. Members of the industry are encouraged to share photos of their fluid power work; celebrate in the office or go on special outings; wear special gear that designates you as a fluid power manufacturer, user or supplier; and support educational efforts to promote the industry.
IFPS selected June 19 because it is the birthday of Blaise Pascal—a French mathematician, inventor, writer and physicist—whose work in hydrodynamics and hydrostatics, including the invention of the hydraulic press, paved the way for future innovations. He was also instrumental in experiments in pneumatics that examined the behavior of air in a vacuum and validated the work of the man who invented the barometer, Evangelista Torricelli.
