Dana Inc. recently debuted comprehensive offerings for the global construction, mining, and material-handling industries that include Spicer drivetrain solutions and newly acquired Brevini power-transmission and fluid power solutions.
Dana has demonstrated a complete drive and motion system for 55- to 110-ton (50- to 100-tonne) wheeled and crawler cranes that highlights the company’s market-leading position for managing power conveyance to move machines and also performing the work functions of the machine. This system includes a Spicer transmission, driveshafts, and axles, as well as a Brevini slew drive, motor/winch system, splitter box/pump drive, proportional directional valve, and two mobile planetary travel drive options.
Dana has also unveiled new Brevini solutions for the construction industry, including a new line of motor/winch systems for cranes that deliver superior load control, as well as a new compact power-transmission solution for asphalt and concrete plants.
Dana announced in February that it completed the acquisition of the power transmission and fluid power businesses of Brevini Group, S.p.A. The combination of Brevini into Dana’s business creates numerous opportunities for growth. Among them, the acquisition:
• increases Dana’s addressable market for off-highway driveline systems by providing access to tracked vehicles in that segment;
• significantly broadens the opportunities in industrial market—an important segment that Dana has served for more than 70 years;
• provides a platform of proven technologies that can be offered to Dana’s on-highway customers; and accelerates Dana’s hybridization and electrification initiatives.
Brevini technologies purchased by Dana include a wide range of highly engineered mobile planetary hub drives; planetary gearboxes; hydraulic pumps, motors, and valves; and advanced electronic control systems. Brevini’s expertise in cylindrical gearing and planetary hub gears supplements Dana’s long history and market leadership in spiral bevel and hypoid gear technologies. Brevini’s technology portfolio increases the patents and patents pending for Dana’s off-highway business by 33%.
With the completion of this transaction, Brevini customers are now served by the Dana Off-Highway Drive and Motion Technologies business (previously known as Dana Off-Highway Drivetrain Technologies).
At the recent CONEXPO-CON/AGG, Dana exhibited a new line of Brevini motor/winch systems engineered to deliver superior load control. Primarily used in crane applications, these systems feature a nine-piston motor that supports slow-speed operation of the winch at full pressure, allowing for more precise maneuvering of loads. The series of four motor/winches supports maximum line pulls ranging from 15,000 to 22,000 lbs. (6,800 to 10,000 kg).
Dana also introduced a new Brevini twin-shaft industrial gearbox system for asphalt and concrete mixing applications. Offering output torques up to 35,000 nM, it uses Posiplan technology with a simplified design, more compact size, and reduced weight that lowers transportation, installation, and maintenance costs.
