Donaldson reservoir headspace dryer controls moisure, extends fluid life

Donaldson Company Inc. has introduced the Donaldson Hy-Pro Reservoir Headspace Dryer.

The Reservoir Headspace Dryer (RHD) removes free, emulsified, and dissolved water from hydraulic and lubrication fluids in their reservoirs by generating dry air and circulating it through the headspace. The process enables moisture to transfer from the oil to the dry air stream. The RHD exhausts clean, dry air outward through the breather element, helping reduce both moisture and particulate ingression.

“The RHD is a significant step forward in moisture control technology aligned with customer applications,” said Adam Ferise, Senior Manager Product, Donaldson Hy Pro. “It delivers great performance while supporting total cost of ownership for our hydraulic and lubrication system customers.”

Under normal operating conditions and proper sizing, the RHD can remove up to 100 ppm of water per day to minimize oxidation, help reduce fluid replacement frequency, prevent premature component wear, and extend filter and lubricant life.

The Reservoir Headspace Dryer’s non-mechanical design and filtration on the inlet provides clean, dry air to the system, helping minimize service intervals and making it a practical and cost-effective choice. The RHD is available in two sizes: the RHD-50 is ideal for smaller gearbox lubricating systems, while the RHD-300 is designed to handle large hydraulic reservoirs.
