ELGi brings portable compressor solutions to The Utility Expo 2025

ELGi Compressor USA (ELGi) will showcase its portable air compressors at The Utility Expo 2025 in Louisville, Oct. 7–9. ELGi compressors are trusted on jobsites around the world for their rugged design, reliable performance and responsive North American service network, helping utilities, contractors and rental partners keep critical infrastructure projects moving.

From fiber installation and trenching to cured-in-place piping, horizontal directional drilling, shotcrete and rock drilling, crews depend on portable compressors for steady air delivery in challenging conditions. ELGi’s portable division is engineered for these real-world demands, with fuel-efficient engines, compact towable designs and reinforced builds that handle dust, vibration and tight jobsites.

While contractors and utility companies are the daily users of this equipment, the rental channel drives most of the market, with roughly 75% of portable compressors entering rental fleets. ELGi supports rental houses with fast lead times, simple serviceability and U.S. assembly that shortens delivery cycles — giving rental partners confidence their fleets can perform reliably across diverse customer applications.

“ELGi’s goal is not just to supply compressors, but to be a reliability partner for the contractors, utilities and rental houses building North America’s next generation of infrastructure,” said Zeke Hendrix, vice president of portable at ELGi Compressor USA.

At Booth #3142, ELGi will feature two models proven in utility and rental applications:

  • D185T4F – The market’s standard 185 cfm/100 psi compressor, representing the majority of units sold in this class. Powered by a Kohler Tier 4 Final diesel engine with no DPF, it delivers rugged, dependable performance for fiber installation, trenching, auger boring and pipe piercing.
  • GP35FP – A compact, 35 cfm/218 psi gas unit designed for fiber-optic cable blowing. Its integrated aftercooler and moisture separator deliver clean, dry air for sensitive fiber installations, while its small footprint and maneuverability make it ideal for residential or urban corridors.

ELGi backs its portable line with one of the industry’s strongest warranties: a five-year unlimited-hour air-end warranty, plus model-specific machine and engine coverage. These programs reduce risk for rental partners and give utilities and contractors the confidence of maximum uptime, simplified maintenance and long-term value.

A note from the editor In our October issue of Fluid Power World, my commentary takes a look at the growing role of automation and sensors in mobile machinery, where OEMs are increasingly focused on automating specific functions and improving machine performance rather than chasing fully autonomous equipment.
