IFPE 2020 will once again co-locate with CONEXPO-CON/AGG March 10-14 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, for the largest North American fluid power and construction trade shows every three years.
With new exhibit spaces, an even greater number of educational opportunities, and an all new Tech Experience, IFPE 2020 promises to once again be a must-see event.
Co-located with CONEXPO-CON/AGG, IFPE 2020 will be held March 10-14 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which is currently under construction. Despite this, all new exhibit spaces and a new Las Vegas Festival Grounds for CONEXPO bring the square footage for the events to more than 2,500,000 ft2, for a total of 10 areas to explore.
The Festival Grounds are located on the Las Vegas Strip adjacent to the Circus Circus Hotel and will feature aerial and cranes, earth moving, hauling and underground construction.
The 2020 show connected campus will also include new and expanded transportation, attendee experiences and registration locations. Features will include multi-site drop off locations for shuttles, complimentary monorail passes, golf cart shuttles, and various experiential transportation options to accommodate attendees throughout the week.
“AEM is committed to bringing people together at CONEXPO-CON/AGG, as the show serves as a catalyst for industry growth and development,” said Dana Wuesthoff, vice president of exhibitions and event services at AEM and CONEXPO-CON/AGG show director. “We wanted to make sure everyone can explore the entire show and have the best possible experience.”
A bigger and better IFPE
More than 400 exhibitors will take over the South Hall for the IFPE Show, where they will showcase fluid power, power transmission and motion control industries in one place. Attendees will have up-close access to the leading manufacturers and suppliers, latest product innovations, and knowledge resources to help their businesses thrive. See the full exhibitor list below, with Fluid Power World February advertisers in bold text.
Additionally, the event will feature an expanded educational lineup, with the ability for attendees to mix and match selections from CONEXPO-CON/AGG and IFPE.
College courses return
Four hands-on college courses will once again be offered. “IFPE education is always a fantastic experience for the attendees, but with the addition of the college course sessions, it becomes a vitally important aspect to the show,” said Dr. Medhat Khalil from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. “This added dimension of fluid power education will benefit the attendees with the broad range of crucial information it provides.”
The agenda for college courses is as follows:
Fundamentals of Hydraulic Systems 101 — Monday, March 9, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., presented by Dr. Medhat Khalil, Director of Professional Education at MSOE at MOSE University. This presentation is made to increase the awareness of the audience about the fundamental concepts of fluid power technology. The presentation covers some rules of physics about fluid pressure and flow. It will present the generic structure of a hydraulic system in addition to construction and principle of operation of the main components, e.g. pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, and rotary actuators. The lecture concludes by looking at how to use these components in a system that works safely and efficiently.
Fundamentals of Hydraulic Systems 201 — Monday, March 9, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. This presentation will be broken up into four parts, and will conducted by Bruce Riley, CEO at Ultra Clean Technologies Corp.; Dmitri Terekhov, Regional Sales Manager at ATOS North America; Dale Vanderlaan, Senior Program Manager at Parker Hannifin; and Ryan Webster, Director of Sales and Engineering at Hallite. It will provide an introduction to hydraulic seal design, selection, and application. It will also cover contamination control and clean hydraulic hose assembly procedures. Finally, electro hydrostatic actuation will also be discussed. This part of the presentation will introduce basic operation, highlighting unique characteristics and comparing benefits with alternative approaches.
Hydraulic Fluid Properties, Efficiency and Contamination Control — Tuesday, March 10 • 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., presented by Paul Michael, Manager of Tribology Research at MSOE. In this seminar, participants will learn about the composition of oils, the properties of lubricants and how hydraulic fluids can affect machine performance. Conventional, multi-grade, synthetic and biodegradable fluids will be discussed. Research studies examining fluid efficiency effects in hydraulic motors, piston and gear pumps will be presented. The principles of oil analysis and filter selection will be outlined. The seminar concludes with case studies that demonstrate how filter debris analysis can be used to troubleshoot hydraulic system contamination control problems.
Digital Design — Tuesday, March 10, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., presented by Kevin Lingenfelter, Danfoss; William Campbell, ATOS; and Adam Livesay, Co-Founder at Elevāt. The first of this three-part presentation will cover the future of machine controls — big data, autonomy and auto tune. It will also discuss how using today’s digital technology can simplify complex machine design and control systems. Part two will showcase fluid power IoT problem-solving success stories. And part three will feature hydraulics in the digital age.

The Tech Experience
The Tech Experience, which debuted in 2017, returns with two locations. It focuses on all the emerging and leading ideas and technologies that will transform construction and engineering in the future.
The hot topic this year will be a 10 x 22-ft smart city replica, which demonstrates how a smart city, through sensors and analytics will be able to transform information into digestible data, providing knowledge for the city to work smarter.
The replica will be on display at the Tech Experience, and will highlight:
- Different city grids and how a city responds to heat, wind and storms.
- Connectivity in the city, including 5G, sensors, telematics and IOT, and
- Impacts of construction. The jobsite of the future within the city and how equipment will communicate will also be on display.
The event is massive and requires a great of walking to see everything. Special shuttles, marked on the map above, will alleviate some foot traffie.
