A note from the editor
Our July 2026 issue of Fluid Power World puts the spotlight on hose reliability, with a cover feature from Southeastern Hose on why proactive inspection — not run-to-failure maintenance — is the smarter path to avoiding costly downtime. We also break down the science behind fire-resistant hydraulic fluids, from water-based HFA and HFB formulations to synthetic HFC and HFD fluids, and explain why heat exchangers remain essential to keeping hydraulic oil in its ideal operating range. Josh Cosford makes the case that fluid power has quietly become a tech industry in its own right, arguing that the same digital tools drawing young engineers to robotics and automation are just as present in hydraulics.
Elsewhere in the issue, Ron Marshall looks at how compressed air training and reference materials from the Compressed Air Challenge can help plants stop losing money to leaks and inefficiency. In Profiles in Fluid Power, we follow Robin Hodgson’s path from apprentice floor sweeper in Northeast England to president of Roth Hydraulics USA, as he works to integrate SFP’s bladder accumulator expertise with Roth’s piston technology. Association Watch rounds out the issue with NAHAD’s record turnout at its Indianapolis convention and NFPA’s latest round of scholarship winners — a reminder that developing the next generation of fluid power talent remains as important as the technology itself.
