Learn all about cyclical testing in fluid power applications

ticketsAttendees to the Fluid Power Technology Conference, presented by Fluid Power World, will have plenty of opportunities to learn from industry experts—as well as pneumatic and hydraulic manufacturers—at the two-day event. Slated for the Milwaukee School of Engineering’s Kern Center on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 21 and 22, the event will feature nearly 10 sessions led by experts in their respective fields.

delta2Cyclical testing in fluid power applications: Why frequency matters in sinusoidal testing is sponsored by Delta Computer Systems and will be presented at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The presentation will be given by Peter Nachtwey, who has more than 25 years of experience developing hydraulic, pneumatic and vision systems for industrial applications.

Nachtwey will discuss how cyclical testing is of growing importance in both mobile and industrial hydraulic applications for documenting life cycle data on items such as tools, verification of product components or cylindrical medical gas containers. While virtually any curve profile or cyclical pattern can be used in the testing process, this presentation will focus on sinusoidal testing and point out practical limitations when a sine wave is used.

Sinusoidal testing is becoming more common and more sophisticated with a trend towards testing at higher frequencies. Although sinusoidal testing looks like it should be easy, there are some limitations due to physics that make sinusoidal test much harder than it looks.
