NewTek AC-LVDTs provide high-temperature position sensing

By Puja Mitra | February 25, 2026

Share

NewTek manufactures custom linear position sensing units in multiple strokes, sizes and materials designed for operation in harsh environments with temperatures up to 200 °C.

Unlike magnetostrictive position sensors and other electronic sensing technologies that rely on integrated electronics that can degrade under prolonged heat, NewTek AC-operated LVDTs contain no internal microelectronics at the sensing element. This design reduces thermal drift, avoids the need for extensive shielding and cooling, improves performance under sustained high temperatures and simplifies mechanical installation.

NewTek NTC LVDT signal conditioners power and process signals from AC-LVDTs that operate in high-temperature zones. The external signal conditioner demodulates the low-amplitude AC output and converts it to DC voltage, current or digital output for meters, PLCs and other control systems. Keeping sensitive electronics outside the hot zone supports long-term reliability and stable operation.

Customization for specific needs

Applications vary, so NewTek offers configurable high-temperature position sensors with mounting options, compact housings, multiple stroke lengths and sizes and high-temperature-resistant materials and construction. Each unit can be specified to match the project’s environment, mechanical constraints and performance requirements.

Designed for demanding applications

NewTek high-temperature AC-LVDTs are used in:

Aerospace and defense

  • Environmental control system valves
  • Flap and actuator monitoring
  • High-temperature test stands

Power generation

  • Turbine actuator control
  • Steam valve automation

Oil and Gas

  • Valve position monitoring.
  • Actuator feedback in refineries and processing plants

Industrial processing and manufacturing

  • Plastic injection molding machines
  • Die casting equipment
  • Metal forging presses

Testing & Measurement Systems

  • Environmental simulation chambers
  • High-temperature material testing

With customizable housing, stroke length and high-temperature materials, NewTek can develop high-temperature sensors tailored to specific application requirements. Units can be engineered for operation in environments reaching temperatures up to 1000°C.

Fluid-Power-World-October-2026-issue-Cover-feature-image-template-copy

A note from the editor In our October issue of Fluid Power World, my commentary takes a look at the growing role of automation and sensors in mobile machinery, where OEMs are increasingly focused on automating specific functions and improving machine performance rather than chasing fully autonomous equipment. Josh Cosford gets cheeky comparing the auto…
