ClearSeal PRW, from Seal Enginereing AS, is a patented, pressure-released, internal wiper with a filter function that prevents debris in the hydraulic oil /pressure media from reaching seals, bearings and other components. It provides insurance against breakdown in hydraulic systems due to contaminated media.
ClearSeal’s compact design and simple geometry allows for easy installation and low risk of malfunction. It gives low friction and has no impact on other functions in the system. In many applications it is possible to incorporate ClearSeal in existing cylinders with only minor re-machining, said Julian Putkowski, Managing Director, Seal Engineering AS.
“With more than 30 years of experience with seals and hydraulics, we have seen that many hydraulic cylinders fail due to contaminated medias. No matter how thoroughly the assembly process has been carried out, this can’t be prevented,” Putkowski said. “The idea with ClearSeal is to handle the seemingly unavoidable fact that machining chips and other residuals from the manufacturing process or installation of fittings on the cylinder — from reaching, and subsequently damaging — the seals and guidings. One such microscopic fragment is enough to initiate a breakdown process of the hydraulic cylinder.”
Such impurities are the most frequent cause of breakdowns in hydraulic applications. ClearSeal PRW is an invisible, but critical component that extends the lifetime of the system dramatically and gives predictable maintenance intervals.
ClearSeal PRW can be installed on the pressure side of conventional sealing systems. It functions as reactive maintenance in existing applications. “It protects all the seals and guiding elements in the sealing system, without acting as a seal itself,” Putkowski said. “It works independently from the sealing system.”
Putkowski said that ClearSeal is usually made from the same material as the seals in the system, to ensure that there will be no issues regarding fluid compatibility. The standard ClearSeal-range is made from PU or PTFE with a filter made from PEEK, to ensure that it will outlast the seals in the system.
ClearSeal is pressure independent. The temperature range is depending on the choice of materials, added Putkowski. The product is available globally.
