Ross Controls launches new hydraulic lockout valves

By Mary Gannon | March 10, 2026

Ross Controls has introduced its new H L-O-X series hydraulic lockout valve for machine guarding applications. The safety function of the new lockout valve is to block the flow of hydraulic fluid to stop cylinder motions.

Energy isolation is required for all energy sources when performing any maintenance related tasks on machinery. Hydraulic Energy isolation requires both pump flow and downstream pressure to bleed to tank. The H L-O-X valve accomplishes this safely through its own independent, full-flow exhaust lines. This is achieved using a manually operated handle that has the capability to accept a lock or hasp to prevent the reapplication of pressure buildup. The valve is tamper-resistant to ensure that the locking out of the hydraulic system cannot easily be bypassed.

H L-O-X valves have a pressure rating of 6,000 psi (414 bar) and are available in three port sizes: 1/2, 3/4, and 1-1/4 in. with flow rates of 20, 35, and 50 gpm, respectively. Each valve is made of carbon steel and includes Delrin and nitrile rubber (Buna-N) seals. A pressure measuring device is also included to confirm the removal of downstream pressure.

Hydraulic Lockout Valves are the latest addition to the Ross hydraulic safety valve product offering, which also includes block & bleed valve systems and block & stop valve systems.

A note from the editor In our October issue of Fluid Power World, my commentary takes a look at the growing role of automation and sensors in mobile machinery, where OEMs are increasingly focused on automating specific functions and improving machine performance rather than chasing fully autonomous equipment. Josh Cosford gets cheeky comparing the auto…
