ROSS Proportional Valves: Integral Piloting and Power

By Fluid Power World Editor | July 10, 2013

ROSS multitasking and durable Proportional valves have long been popular in glass industry for plunger, blower and hollow glass forming applications, but other industries are starting to discover the product’s many benefits.  The steel industry, for example has found them especially useful in steel tension roll applications because they ensure constant system pressure for extended periods of time.

ROSS Controls ValveThe ROSS Proportional valve is equipped with integrated electronic circuitry and sensors that control both pressurizing and exhausting and can be set to operate within particular electrical values (0-10v or 4-20mA) for precise control. The sensors adjust automatically (after the eighth cycle at the latest) freeing the operator to concentrate on other system requirements.

Designed to pressurize and exhaust proportionally, the valve offers varied operating positions (from 0 – 100%) and provides complete adjustability and repeatability. The valve’s electronic and sensing controls ensure level pressure even when confronted with faulty system seals, component wear, pressure drops, varying electrical supply and other challenges.

In any industry where it is applied, one of the Proportional valve’s main benefits is that it conveniently functions as an integral pilot and power valve.  This two-in-one feature saves money by reducing procurement costs and saving installation time.

If conserving energy is a concern, it should be noted that the ROSS Proportional valve is constructed with special bearings that ensure a very small hysteresis, making it quite efficient. Additionally, because the valve shuts off the flow of pilot air once optimal downstream pressure is reached, it doesn’t require constant air flow like competitor models and thus reduces energy consumption.

With its force-balanced valve elements, robust poppet design, stainless steel internals and reliable seals, the ROSS Proportional valves offer sure shifting in dirty and caustic environments such as paper and textile manufacturing. Available in fully open or fully closed operating positions, these long-lasting powerhouses ensure optimum uptime and require virtually no maintenance. More information, click here.

Where are we in the tariffs tug-of-war? It feels like we’ve been talking about tariffs for months now, with the constant, will they or won’t they take effect? Josh Cosford penned an opinion piece a few weeks ago on this very topic, sharing his thoughts from north of our border as we waited for impending…
