VMAC is pleased to provide four $1,000 scholarships for Vancouver Island University (VIU) students entering the second year of either the Engineering Transfer or Engineering Technologist program.
VMAC has committed to the scholarships as part of a pledge to invest in the local community. VIU is a public university located in the city of Nanaimo, where VMAC’s manufacturing facility is located. Supporting local engineering students is a natural fit, as VMAC’s team consists of a large in-house engineering department with a wide range of specializations including mechanical, electrical, manufacturing and quality.
“VMAC’s engineering capability allows us to create innovative products that are sold globally,” said Barry Fitzgerald, VMAC’s Director of Engineering & Quality. “As a Canadian company, we are committed to building homegrown engineering talent to sustain Canada’s competitiveness in engineering disciplines. VMAC runs a very active engineering co-op training program and these new VIU scholarships are an important next step in expanding our support of Canadian education.”
Scholarships will be awarded at the start of the school year in September 2021. Eligibility is based on financial need and community involvement.
“We’re very grateful for a great community partner in VMAC stepping forward with tremendous support for our Engineering students,” said William Litchfield, Executive Director, VIU Foundation. “Many of our students have to make difficult decisions to balance their studies, work and family to get by and these awards will provide them with the opportunity to focus and excel in their studies.”
