A primer on the basics of sealing systems and products specific to the fluid power industry. Josh will discuss general fluid power seal applications, including mounting locations and fluid compatibility. As well, machine dynamics play a part in seal selection, especially comparing both dynamic or static loads. Finally, Josh will cover how environmental factors affect seal selection.

Josh Crosford, contributing editor, studied fluid power at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, where he currently resides. He has over a decade of experience with fluid power systems, and has held the Certified Fluid Power Hydraulic Specialist designation from the Fluid Power Society since 2009. Josh has been involved in the design and sales of hydraulic systems since 2006.

Paul J. Heney is Editorial Director of Design World, and has been writing about engineering and manufacturing topics for more than 20 years. His specific coverage areas include hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, power transmission, green engineering, and aerospace. He has a BS in Engineering Science & Mechanics from Georgia Tech.
