Converting a variable electrical signal into a proportional compressed air output, proportional valves are an essential component of any effective compressed air industrial system that requires accuracy and long-term reliability.
The updated VP23, VP60 and the new VP50 proportional valves offers IO-Link capability to help industrial users increase control in their compressed air systems, achieve higher yields, and improve quality control in typical process control scenarios or industrial settings. At the same time, the new proportional valves are easier and quicker to install and offer a reduction in commissioning times.

With industry demands for increased connectivity and transparent data visibility to support effective performance, the new VP50 IO-Link proportional valve offers a range of additional benefits as it builds on the industry-proven and popular capabilities of the current popular VP50 valve. IO-Link connectivity allows users access to sensor-level data, enabling the valve to play an important part in the smooth operation of system components via increased data availability.
Operators can also read and change the device parameters through the control system to support fast configuration and commissioning objectives.
Finally, the VP50’s IO-Link provides users with clear and concise visibility to check on errors, cycle counts and internal temperature feedback so extended diagnostics can be carried out simply and quickly, and preventative maintenance measures taken to avoid potential issues.
The VP50 offers a pressure range of 0-10 bar and a temperature range of 0 to 60°C and a response time of <100 msec.
Enhancements to the Norgren VP23 and VP60
Further developments have been applied to the existing VP23 and VP60 proportional valve solutions with both benefitting from IO-Link connectivity. The valves are ideal for general purpose industrial pressure and flow control applications that require high flow and fast response times. The VP23 offers a three-way closed loop pressure control solution, while the VP60 provides flow control via a 5/3 direct operated spool valve utilizing glandless spool technology.
Both the VP23 and VP60 valves benefit from IO-Link digitally driven command signal and feedback to enable greater flexibility in setting up and operating over a traditional analog setup. This feedback provides output pressure and input signal confirmation to the user, while the hours run count can be used to assist time preventative maintenance strategies. The valves also have status flag reporting capability to ensure that users always have a full performance picture.
According to Stephen Turner for Norgren, “Thanks to the connectivity benefits that come with IO-Link, users can now access important data streams around performance and system health that can inform the ongoing operational efficiency measures of a process or industrial application. Quick, easy to install and simple to commission, the VP23, VP60 and VP50 proportional valve range is an important aid to ensure that compressed air systems work as effectively as possible.”
