In our September issue of Fluid Power World, we concentrate on how digital technology, connectivity, electrification and smarter controls are being integrated into systems. Our cover story from Bosch Rexroth looks at how construction machinery is embracing connected systems, while our Design Notes feature explores HeavyTech’s ground-up approach to hybrid construction equipment and a new electrohydraulic architecture.
At the component and system level, this issue also focuses on the practical engineering decisions that make fluid power systems work reliably. We look at the differences between seamless and welded hydraulic tubing, common mistakes in manifold design, and why proper hose crimping is so important for safety, repeatability, traceability and uptime. We also examine compressed-air drying and the role it can play in both equipment reliability and energy efficiency.
Finally, we take a closer look at the people and companies shaping where the industry is headed. In our Profiles in Fluid Power, Alkon CEO Rahul Deshmukh discusses the company’s move toward becoming a broader fluid power solutions provider while maintaining its emphasis on customers and its people. And in this month’s FluidLines, I reflect on something that continues to stand out to me after more than two decades covering this industry: for all the advances in technology, fluid power remains a remarkably people-driven business. The technology may be changing, but the knowledge, relationships and experience behind it remain just as important.
