Type 625 volume booster provides faster response and stable valve control

ControlAir LLC has released its type 625 volume booster, a compact pneumatic relay designed to improve the speed and performance of pneumatic control valve actuators. These pressure regulation devices use pilot pressure rather than a spring or adjustment thread to provide force balance when opening the supply valve.

Installed between a valve positioner and pneumatic actuator, the Type 625 increases available airflow to reduce actuator positioning time and improve valve response. A fixed deadband and adjustable bypass valve allow small incremental downstream adjustments without opening the main booster valve, while providing field adjustment of dynamic response for stable operation across a wide range of actuator sizes.

It combines fast response, high accuracy, tight shutoff, and integrated air filtration in a rugged aluminum housing. A soft valve seat eliminates leakage during steady-state operation, while an integrated 100-mesh filter helps protect internal components from dust and contaminants.

Key features include:

  • 1:1 pressure ratio: provides a 1:1 signal-to-output pressure ratio with supply and signal pressures up to 150 psig (10 bar).
  • high flow capacity: forward and exhaust flow coefficients of Cv 1.5 provide strong filling and exhausting capability for faster actuator response.
  • adjustable bypass: allows field tuning of actuator response and stability to help minimize overshoot or hunting.
  • accurate performance: output accuracy is rated at 1% of a 100 psig output span, with maximum hysteresis of 1%.
  • compact, flexible installation: features 1/4-in. NPT signal, supply, and output connections, weighs approximately 1.25 lb, and can be mounted in any position.
  • wide temperature capability: available in standard (–40° to 200°F), low temperature (–62° to 194°F), and expanded temperature (–55° to 284°F) configurations.

The Type 625 Volume Booster is suitable for both diaphragm and piston actuators and is best used for process control valves, oil and gas equipment, chemical processing, power generation, industrial automation, and other pneumatic actuator applications requiring faster valve response and stable control.

A note from the editor In our October issue of Fluid Power World, my commentary takes a look at the growing role of automation and sensors in mobile machinery, where OEMs are increasingly focused on automating specific functions and improving machine performance rather than chasing fully autonomous equipment. Josh Cosford gets cheeky comparing the auto…
